A Hybrid Built by Ford Motor Company

Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment.Originally introduced in Ford’s 2006 line-up, the Fusion has new modications including the new Hybrid power plant.  Ford officially released the Fusion Hybrid recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2008.The excellent in-town gas mileage is what makes the Ford Fusion Hybrid so unique.Beating out the Toyota Camry by a large margin, and the economical Civic Hybrid by a hair; the Fusion Hybird is ranked at 41 MPG in town driving. The hybrid electric motor has the ability to power the Fusion up past 45 miles per hour without the help of the gas engine. There are a ton of Vehicle Magazines that have used these tactics to get much better gas savings than the EPA ratings.

Using new technology, the Fusion can inform drivers which driving style is best for fuel economy. The Smart Gauge is a set of gauges built into the display. There are two displays on each side of the gauge cluster that show various hybrid info. The first monitor will indicate just how much gas is left and also how much energy is left in the battery pack. The second gauge tells which mode the car in in; electric or hybrid, and it also shows the RPM’s.The third monitor will tell how the battery power is and what the engine output is.The last data screen displays power to the wheels and additional accessory power consumption.  All data screens show fuel economy, fuel consumption history, an odometer, trip data, and coolant temperatures.Best fuel economy can be gauged through real time MPG information showing the driver which driving style is best.

The nav screen shows the Hybrid Energy Flow data.  This display will track the 5 modes of the Fusion’s Hybrid Powertrain which are the; electric drive, hybrid drive, electric boost, idle charging, and regenerative breaking.

The For Fusion is unique among other hybrids in that recycled yarns were used to make the seats, another eco modification first. The Prius and the Civic Hybrid are two of the most popular cars out today, its about time Ford designed a hybrid car.
